HARRIS 4-COLOUR SHEET-FED LITHO PRESS

The Harris 4-colour sheet-fed litho press had a sheet size of 1752 x 1270mm. It was shipped to England from America in the Queen Mary in 1948, and erected at Jarrolds.
Operated by the brothers Charles and William Kent, It was the first large 4-colour litho press to be installed in the UK.
Once established, it was in continuous production for over 30 years serving, mainly, the growing market for children's annuals.

Jarrolds were able to print in all three major processes.

Prior to the development of electronic reproduction of pictures,
large camera departments were necessary



Jarrolds bindery, c.1960.
Some 300 girls were employed in the bindery on many hand-work operations.
Semi-automatic sewers fed by hand were in regular use.
